Love From Gram Gram And Grandad

Every morning Ellie and Grannie read the 1st Birthday Card from Gram Gram and Grandad.

As will be apparent, our great granddaughter follows the handwriting as she does the print in a book being read to her. Although the card has been regularly bent and chewed this is the first time the two halves have been separated, requiring a Sellotape repair.

On this sun-bright yet cooler day Jackie and I transported ten more spent compost bags of green refuse to the Efford Recycling Centre,

coming away with four drinking vessels, including three of cut glass bought from the reuse shop.

Afterwards we received our Flu and Covid vaccinations at Ashley Pharmacy.

This evening we all enjoyed second sittings of Jackie’s curry meals of yesterday, with which she drank Dino Italian blush 2022 and I finished the Shiraz.

  1. It’s hard to believe a year has passed. I wonder how long it will be until you and Gram-gram receive your first birthday cards from Ellie? Not all that long, I should think.

    1. I got one on this 7th July. Ellie had blue fingers – the explanation was the blue on the card.

  2. Isn’t it amazing how babies pick up the rhythm of reading? And then there are those unfortunate babies who are not read to the way Ellie is. I remember when my youngest daughter started kindergarten, there were some little children who didn’t know “A” from “Z.” That certainly won’t be Ellie!

  3. This is precious. How did the idea of reading the card aloud each day come about? I loved reading to my boys and did so several times a day. This triggers lovely memories.

    1. Thank you very much, Alys. It comes from her following the words on her favourite books. She then reached for that card very early on.

  4. No one would dare try to fraud handwriting and signatures. A graphologist in the making. I love great finds at recycle places. We’re had 5 covid vaccinations to date. It’s still bad here but mostly in over populated areas.

  5. AW! and YAY! So precious! More sweet Happy 1st Birthday memories for little Ellie! 🙂
That card is full of love, so it must taste good! (wink, wink)

During my lifetime, and my Kindergarten teaching career, I taught a LOT of young children (3-5 year olds) to read. I love that Ellie already follows along with the words! That is a great beginning to Ellie learning the alphabet and learning to read! I predict she will read young! And she will be making birthday cards for everyone she loves! ❤️

    Beautiful drinking vessels! 🙂
YAY for the vaccines! We got our Covid vaccines a week ago and will get our ‘Flu one soon.
(((HUGS))) and ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ for everyone at your home! 🙂

  6. I love crystal finds. Are those wine glasses Edinburgh, they look familiar?
My offspring prefer more modern versions and stick to large modern plain glass apart from Joshua!

How lovely that Jackie reads to Ellie every morning. We had the pleasure of our two eldest grandsons living with us for the first four years of their lives. It was heartbreaking when the family left and bought their own home.

I had my flu jab last week and just like last year I purposely booked my Covid booster separately for this Saturday. I hope you don’t suffer a reaction. For most people, Pfizer seems to cause one.

    1. Strange that you should say that, Sue. I am very achy today. The only similar glasses we have found on Google are Villeroy & Boch. Thanks very much

      1. I hope you feel better soon, it’s not pleasant is it?
Gosh this is the first notification of your reply that I’ve had in months!

  7. Looks like a day well spent. I’going to check with the nurse tomorrow about shingles vaccination (she will ne taking out tomorrow rather than putting in). Then I’m going to book my Covid and flu vaccinations. Flu vaccination has now become one of tose seasonal markers. Nobody round here seems able to do them at the same time.

      1. I’m booked in for shingles in two weeks. Now trying to find places to have the others as the surgery isn’t set up for all this. They do a very good Saturday flu clinic and do hundreds in the day, but I work Saturdays. They used to do my flu when I was there for blood tests, and did my pneumonia like that, but they rarely do it these days. Two together is so logical, and beyond the ability of the NHS in Nottingham. 🙁

  8. Bless her, she’s off to a good start. I despair for my (now grown) grandchildren, and my two great-grandkids.
My favourite saying is “first you learn to read, and then you read to learn”.

    1. Thanks very much, Gwen. My Aussie grandson Malachi, is a great reader, who never leaves here without something from my library

  9. Ellie is retrieving every possible wonder that the lovingly made birthday card could be holding in its bosom. The card appears to have survived the edibility test.

  10. I love the ritual of Jackie reading the card to Ellie every morning, and I feel those moments from the past with my own children. I expect Ellie will be reading on her own early.

We’re getting our flu and Covid vaccines in a few days.
