After lunch, tempted into the garden by the sunshine, still keeping ice
in containers like this pot saucer, fingers tingling, I took a brief walk around with my camera.
Many of the camellias were either in bloom or bud,
while the Japanese anemones bore seed pods apparently investigated by spiders.
Backlit cordyline Australis bore drips of precipitation.
The Gazebo bore the clematis Cirrhosa “Freckles”.
The dead stumps along the Back Drive and sculpture Florence were picked up in sidelight.
Later, I dozed through the first two episodes of Lucy Worsley’s Russian Romanovs.
This evening we all dined on tempura, and hot and spicy, prawns; tempura vegetables and spring rolls on Jackie’s colourful vegetable rice, with which I drank more of the shiraz and the Culinary Queen drank Mezquiriz Rosado 2023
Glad to hear you are on the mend. And your garden is blooming despite the icy conditions.
Thank you very much, Pat
There is still beauty in the garden even in winter, wonderful! I’m glad that you are feeling better, Derrick. ????????
Thank you very much, John
You are welcome! ????????
So happy to see you had the energy to walk around the garden a little. Rest is not a bad thing after that!
Thank you so much, Dale
I’m happy you felt well enough to walk around in your garden–beautiful even in winter.
Thank you very much, Merril
Spiders are determined rascals!
Thanks very much, GP
Your garden will help with healing, good to see you’ve “eating and drinking” again…stay warm etc.
Here it’s about keeping cool as…another hot day in the offering…
Thank you so much, Catherine. I hope you are not too hot
I smiled to read that you took a walk.
Good good.
Thank you very much, Mimi
Garden is so pretty in the winter. Hate to admit it, but I do enjoy dozing through a good history show. 😉
🙂 Thanks very much, Laurie
So glad you felt up to a garden walk! YAY!
Your photos are so wonderful! I especially enjoyed the spiders artwork, the precipitation drips, sunlight Florence, and the pot saucer holding the ice.
We had winds, cold, (BRR!!!), and snow today!
(((HUGS))) ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you very much, Carolyn XX
I’m pleased to see you felt well enough to give us a tour of the garden. 🙂
Thank you so much, Sue
Gland you had a little walk about Derrick… Lovely images, xxx <3
Thank you very much, Sue. XX
????????????
I’m glad you were feeling well enough to venture out today. The winter-blooming camillas were always such a treat when I lived in the south.
Thank you very much, Liz
You’re welcome, Derrick.
Good results from your short walk.
Thanks very much, Tootlepedal
Slow and steady Derrick …
Yep. Thanks very much, Ivor
My, your spiders are tough ones in bracing the cold!
Thanks very much, Rosaliene
Good that you felt able to get some fresh air. I find the I-Player is handy for filling in the gaps where naps have intruded. 🙂
Indeed. Thanks very much, Quercus
🙂
I like how you captured the light on the cordyline Australis. Brave camelias. Hello, Florence!
Thank you very much, JoAnna
I have always loved that Florence statue in your garden, Derrick and Jackie. She has a lot of detail and life about her.
How are you feeling today?
Much better this morning, Lavinia. Thanks very much
I am often surprised to find spider webs strung across plants – and even paths – with no sign of the weaver. Sometimes I catch a shining glimpse of spider web threads being blown across the garden by the wind and think these must have come from the trees. A bit of fresh air is a good thing, but I am not sure about the cold. Whatever you do DON”T SLIP!
Good advice, Anne. I wasn’t out there very long. 🙂 Thanks very much
Hi Derrick, it is amazing that the flowers bloom in such cold weather
Thank you very much, Robbie
You have quite a wine cellar. I’m impressed by the variety.
Thanks very much, Judy. Not much stays in the cellar very long, 🙂
Well think of all the people in the world who have died with a full wine cellar. What a waste. ;o)
🙂
That looks like a lovely winter’s day!
It was. Thanks very much
40C here today. The pool was lovely this morning before a busy day in the garden. Mostly I’m overseeing trimming and moving pots. I love the sculpture of Florence. I’ve been thinking of something similar for the back garden. Sounds like you are feeling better.
Better still, today. Thanks very much, Chrissy
Still great photos Derrick. You need more rest.
Thanks very much, Arlene
Wonderful images!!!
Thank you very much, Luisa
My pleasure , dear Derrick 🙂
Delightful ????❄️
Thank you very much, Sherry
Thanks very much, Sherry
Beautiful photos, Derrick. You must be feeling better.
Yes, Eugi. Thanks very much
You’re welcome, Derrick.
Derrick, there is nothing like a stroll in the garden to aid recuperation, even in winter! ???? So much beauty and I am fascinated by your clematis. My mother’s is also out in bloom at the moment – but is this usual? Take care.
This particular one is a winter flowering variety
Not a bad day, all things considered…Ours here in Spain, was illuminated most of the day by bright sunshine, a visit with husband and friend to a delightful cafe where the selection has one drooling…I decided on a dark chocolate eclair, which didn’t disappoint. Tonight`s meal is still a mystery, as hubby is chef. Enjoy the weekend, Derrick. Cheers.
You, too, Joy. Thanks very much.
I discovered Lucy Worsley some years back via YouTube … what an absolute fount of useful information she’s turned out to be, on all sorts of subjects. 😀
She has, Widders. Thanks very much
😀
Hope you keep improving. The garden is looking good.
Thanks very much, Gary
Intriguing title backed by Interesting images.
Thank you very much, Uma
I love that whatever the time of year, there’s something blooming in your garden. Glad to hear you’re recovering from your cold.
Today (Saturday) is our first drastically cold day of winter. Temperatures are well below freezing and there is a ferocious wind and freezing rain and ice pellets. I have already had to provide new liquid water to the chickens twice this morning. And I am in the midst of thawing out the hummingbird feeder for the second time. I never think to pity birds until this kind of weather hits. …all that is off topic I guess, but thoughts inspired by the view of the frozen water in your garden. Stay warm and safe both of you. As long as the Internet and power works, I’ll use this very cold day to catch up on computer stuff. Then, instead of reading, I hope to convince Pedro to play board games with me. 🙂
Not off topic at all. You are much colder than we are
You are feeling well enough for a garden excursion – that’s great news, Derrick! Your garden is lovely, despite the weather.
Thank you so much, Dolly
My pleasure, Derrick.
Your garden still looks beautiful!
Thanks very much, Riba
I like the camellia – the way it is very gently splotched.
Thank you very much, Susan
