Investigation By Spiders

After lunch, tempted into the garden by the sunshine, still keeping ice

in containers like this pot saucer, fingers tingling, I took a brief walk around with my camera.

Many of the camellias were either in bloom or bud,

while the Japanese anemones bore seed pods apparently investigated by spiders.

Backlit cordyline Australis bore drips of precipitation.

The Gazebo bore the clematis Cirrhosa “Freckles”.

The dead stumps along the Back Drive and sculpture Florence were picked up in sidelight.

Later, I dozed through the first two episodes of Lucy Worsley’s Russian Romanovs.

This evening we all dined on tempura, and hot and spicy, prawns; tempura vegetables and spring rolls on Jackie’s colourful vegetable rice, with which I drank more of the shiraz and the Culinary Queen drank Mezquiriz Rosado 2023

  1. There is still beauty in the garden even in winter, wonderful! I’m glad that you are feeling better, Derrick. ????????

  2. Your garden will help with healing, good to see you’ve “eating and drinking” again…stay warm etc.
Here it’s about keeping cool as…another hot day in the offering…

  3. So glad you felt up to a garden walk! YAY!
Your photos are so wonderful! I especially enjoyed the spiders artwork, the precipitation drips, sunlight Florence, and the pot saucer holding the ice.
We had winds, cold, (BRR!!!), and snow today!
    (((HUGS))) ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

  4. I am often surprised to find spider webs strung across plants – and even paths – with no sign of the weaver. Sometimes I catch a shining glimpse of spider web threads being blown across the garden by the wind and think these must have come from the trees. A bit of fresh air is a good thing, but I am not sure about the cold. Whatever you do DON”T SLIP!

  5. 40C here today. The pool was lovely this morning before a busy day in the garden. Mostly I’m overseeing trimming and moving pots. I love the sculpture of Florence. I’ve been thinking of something similar for the back garden. Sounds like you are feeling better.

  6. Derrick, there is nothing like a stroll in the garden to aid recuperation, even in winter! ???? So much beauty and I am fascinated by your clematis. My mother’s is also out in bloom at the moment – but is this usual? Take care.

  7. Not a bad day, all things considered…Ours here in Spain, was illuminated most of the day by bright sunshine, a visit with husband and friend to a delightful cafe where the selection has one drooling…I decided on a dark chocolate eclair, which didn’t disappoint. Tonight`s meal is still a mystery, as hubby is chef. Enjoy the weekend, Derrick. Cheers.

  8. I discovered Lucy Worsley some years back via YouTube … what an absolute fount of useful information she’s turned out to be, on all sorts of subjects. 😀

  9. I love that whatever the time of year, there’s something blooming in your garden. Glad to hear you’re recovering from your cold.

  10. Today (Saturday) is our first drastically cold day of winter. Temperatures are well below freezing and there is a ferocious wind and freezing rain and ice pellets. I have already had to provide new liquid water to the chickens twice this morning. And I am in the midst of thawing out the hummingbird feeder for the second time. I never think to pity birds until this kind of weather hits. …all that is off topic I guess, but thoughts inspired by the view of the frozen water in your garden. Stay warm and safe both of you. As long as the Internet and power works, I’ll use this very cold day to catch up on computer stuff. Then, instead of reading, I hope to convince Pedro to play board games with me. 🙂
