A Damp Dump Drive

Late this morning, in steady rain, we transported 11 bags of garden refuse and a broken spade that even we couldn’t recycle, to Efford Recycling Centre and came back with a print of a painting of flowers which Jackie had been given because unsold contents of the Reuse Shop were undergoing periodic culling.

Our warm, wet, weather of recent weeks has provided breeding grounds for a myriad of irritating midges. During our dump drive a number of these emerged from the damp rubbish and will be reminding us for a day or two to come.

We call our downstairs loo The Print Room on account of the number of my photographic prints.

Here is today’s new addition.

My lunchtime antiques TV programme doze was interrupted by a telephone call from Alice who was to carry out my BCG procedure at Southampton General Hospital tomorrow. This has been postponed to next week because the vaccine has not arrived.

Later, I finished reading a delightful short story, the draft of a review of which I will use my bonus time to write tomorrow. It will not be posted until Thursday 24th, for reasons which will become clear when it is.

This evening Jackie both produced and photographed our dinner of tempura and salt and pepper prawn preparations; with duck spring rolls on a bed of her colourful savoury rice and a side of succulent ratatouille, accompanied by another glass of the Cabernet Sauvignon for me.

  1. Sounds like a full day. I always wonder what you’ll bring back from the recycling center. Dinner looks delicious. Enjoy your unexpected free time.

  2. Oh, for fun this year I bought carnivorous plants for the very first time, in hopes of dealing with a healthy population of teensy flying things in the bathroom window plants. I bought one butterwort and one cape sundew. They promptly went to work. Sadly, I have killed the cape sundew – not sure how. But the butterwort is thriving and has doubled in size and now “eats” fruit flies too. yay!

  3. I once saw a beautiful sculpture that had been dumped at our local recycling and tried to buy it, but no chance, they are not allowed to sell or give away anything, which is a great shame.
Cheers to you and Jackie, looks like a delightful meal. 🥰

  4. One man’s trash is another man’s potpourri– I love seeing things reused. I have a favourite thrift store here that I find a treasure at every time I go

That meal….so tasty looking and lovely. I thought you were going to say it was a table at a restaurant!

  5. A damp dump drive. But you returned home with a delightful decorative-art-piece AND enjoyed a delicious delectable dinner! 🙂
    Oh, those midges…Eek and Ack!
Sorry to hear about your procedure postponement.
I remember you blogging about your The Print Room in the past! And now you have a new-to-you print to enjoy! I always enjoyed those blogs…and I remember thinking I might get so caught up in looking at and enjoying the art in The Print Room that people would be knocking on the door saying, “Hurry up! What are you doing in there?” Ha! 🙂
I look forward to your next short story review!
(((HUGS))) for you and Jackie!! ❤️❤️

  6. That is an excellent print. Amazing that it was left. That meal is almost exactly what we have as our traditional Christmas Eve meal. Sorry to hear the procedure was delayed, but not surprised. 🙂
