“Would You Like To Look At Some Waves?”

While The Big Bad Wolf huffed and puffed at 60 m.p.h. overhead, battering our windows with driving spittle, and blowing open our front door in attempts to gain entrance; and I had just sat down to write an A Knight’s Tale post, my Chauffeuse asked me if I would like to look at some waves.

So off we went.

Once I had struggled in Paddy’s Gap carpark to prevent my passenger door from being wrenched from its hinges as I prised myself out of the Modus I managed just a few minutes facing the wolf’s huffing, puffing, and spitting

over the sea wall as it lashed the waves and strove to uproot breakwaters

Safe behind her windscreen Jackie’s only problem in photographing the scene was the sweep of her wipers, without which she would have been focussing solely on raindrops.

When I could stand the onslaught no more I turned just in time for a wave of water to slap my back rather than my front,

and to retreat into the car with the same difficulty as that which I had experienced on disembarking.

I spent the afternoon preparing https://derrickjknight.com/2021/12/07/a-knights-tale-75-trips-around-the-neighbourhood/ which I posted later.

This evening we dined on an excellent Red Chilli Takeaway meal. Jackie’s main course was Saag Chicken; mine was Tandoori King Prawn Naga; we shared Paneer Tikka, special fried rice, garlic Naan, and Saag bhaji. Mrs Knight drank Hoegaarden and I finished the Rioja.

  1. I love to be at the beach when it is storming. Your big bad wolf description was a howling success. Hope you don’t take a chill. Great pictures.

  2. I’m glad that wave wasn’t any bigger — we learned that Rule #1 is to never turn your back on the sea during wave attacks!

  3. Wowza! Mother Nature AND The Big Bad Wolf were making themselves known there today! 😮 🙂
Thank you for being brave enough to go toe-to-toe with them in order to get such amazing photos! 🙂

Jackie: What great photos! The drop drippin’ down Derrick’s drenched-nose! Love it! Ha! 😀
    (((HUGS))) 🙂

  4. I never would take my camera out in such conditions. Is yours sealed and weather proof, or do you have some other way to keep it protected? It certainly was worth the risk. The photos are great.

  5. That was an impulsive decision to venture out into the tempest. Roiling waves have been ably hunted, as has been the hunter across the windshield and wipers.

  6. Another adventure with Derrick and Jackie! Those benches look sturdy, but I’m glad you weren’t sitting on one, and glad you didn’t get swept away. 🙂

  7. Your opening description set the scene beautifully for the powerful images that follow. Well done to both of you for capturing the breath and rage of the beast. Like you other readers, I wonder how your camera copes with all that wet.

  8. That was quite a storm. Sometimes it’s hard to resist going down to the beach during a storm. The energy of it is stimulating … for a brief time, especially when you can go home and get warm and dry.

  9. You are living dangerously! I think I would have preferred the safety of the car, not to mention the warmth. I hope you dried off quickly.

    1. It took a while, but I am fine, today, Sue. I, too, would have preferred to stay in the car, but I wouldn’t have got those shots, and more importantly, Jackie wouldn’t have got that header. Thanks very much.

  10. Good heavens what wind! The photos make it easy to imagine. BTW, I have had a much easier time downloading photos on your blog posts lately. It makes the task of catching up (when I’m so far behind) easier, when I don’t need to wait and wait for the photos. I don’t know what caused the change, but I’m grateful.

      1. Thank you! I only rarely have time to read through and give your posts the attention they deserve. When I do get the time, I just have to buckle and get to them all. I feel like you two are my own family this week. I’ve been in your home, and garden, and in your forest, and I’ve had so many dinners with you, and heard you reminisce. You do a great job responding to everyone, and I am impressed.

  11. Glad the wave didn’t uproot your feet, and plaster you to the ground! 🙂
The food sounds like you could be eating here in my home!
