Before bed last night I watched the highlights of the third day of the third test between England and Sri Lanka.
After lunch, restricting myself to the Rose Garden, I carried out my first session of dead heading since my last cystoscopy.
After a considerable rest I took my camera round the garden.
These images all bear their titles in the gallery.
Bees, Small White butterflies, and even a tiny hoverfly in the last of these pictures enjoyed the day’s warm sunshine.
A smaller bird had a word in the ear of an owl.
Summer Wine (the first) and For Your Eyes Only are two of the roses I dead headed. Can you tell the difference between them?
This evening we dined on maple pork belly slices; Jackie’s fried savoury rice, and cauliflower.
I need garden!
Thank you very much, Ilze
I wish I had such a beautiful garden to unwind in.
When you have finished the house, perhaps.
For sure! I’ve definitely got a green thumb (is that what you call it in English when you’re good at planting and growing things?).
Lovely! For Your Eyes Only has that striking dark red at the base of each petal with an orange-ish corona as it transitions to the prevailing pink color. Gorgeous! Love the fuschia, too. And the small bird whispering to the owl = adorable. ~Ed.
That’s right, Ed. I’m pleased about your likes. Thank you very much
Please never quiz me on flowers or gardens. I admire the beauty. 🙂
OK, Merril. Thanks very much
🙂
I think the coloration on the last two roses is different? I love the bird and owl photo.
Yes, Liz. I’m pleased you liked that one. Thanks very much
You’re welcome, Derrick.
Beautiful photos.
Thanks very much, Andy
You’re welcome.
The Fuchsias are outstanding Derrick
Thank you so much, Ivor
Still so much colour and blooms The fuchsias and Dahlias beautiful xx
Thank you very much, Sue XX
Yet again the garden of many years help restore you, and that gentle nudge to be out there tending to it…
Thank you very much, Catherine
There’s still a lot of blooms photograph good to see.
Thank you very much, Chrissy
Yes, but both are very fine.
Thank you very much, Tootlepedal
For Your Eyes Only has a different centre. Both are beautiful.
That is right, Sue. Thank you very much
For Your Eyes Only has a more vibrant center and Summer Wine has more color at the tips of the petals. Both are gorgeous, and fabulous photo of the bird and the owl.
You have got it Eugi. Thank you very much
They are very similar aren’t they? But both are gorgeous.
Thank you very much, Lindsey
A beautiful selection, Derrick. The lace cap hydrangea caught my attention for its unique design. Love the play of light on the copper beech trunk. As I see it, the Summer Wine rose (on the left) has more petals than For Your Eyes Only (on the right).
Thanks very much, Rosaliene. There is another difference – perhaps not clear enough
Such wonders, Derrick!
Thank you so much, VJ
My pleasure, always
That last pair of roses is lovely; the color combinations are ones that I enjoy.
Thank you very much, Linda
Congratulations on getting back to deadheading. Continue to heal and progress. Gorgeous flowers.
Thank you very much, Pat
Absolutely beautiful Derrick! I love the last burst of color this time of the year.
I think you’re being wise to limit your deadheading to one area of the garden. One step at a time. I love the subtle beauty of the small white butterfly and the light behind the first Japanese anemone.
Thank you very much, JoAnna
As usual, your garden is so lush Derrick. Love those flowers.
Thank you very much, Arlene
Hi, Derrick – I didn’t notice the difference between For Your Eyes Only and Summer Wine until I read the comments. I continue to learn a great deal here.
Thank you very much, Donna
Yes, more petals on Summer Wine. Lovely!
Thanks very much, Laurie. I’ll refrain from answering yet
I’m glad you’re spending time in the garden, and I’m also pleased to know that you are resting in between.
Thank you very much, Alys
I love the inner core colour of “For Your Eyes Only”. I am thinking about the mix flower scent in your garden, Derrick.
Thank you very much, Rupali. One difference viewers can’t see is that Summer Wine is the scented one
It is always good to know that you have been able to get out and about. The difference in the roses has already been mentioned, but I am pleased that you made me look at them more closely 🙂
Thank you very much, Anne
Love the photo of the smaller bird consulting the owl. They do say owls are wise. 🙂
Fabulously beautiful flower photos! ‘Tis always a joy to see bees, butterflies, birds, etc., enjoying the garden. 🙂
Those two flowers have such similar colors and shape, but very different “middles”. 🙂
(((HUGS))) ❤️❤️
You got the answer, Carolyn. I’m pleased you liked the consultation photo. Thanks very much.
The only difference I see is, the one on the left has more petals per flower and a deeper color green leaves.
Hi Derrick! I’m happy to see you out and about – – – enjoying and sharing your lovely garden. Best wishes for continued recovery.
Gorgeous photos Derrick.
Thanks very much, Cindy
Beautiful flowers, great photos!
Thank you very much, Robbye
The centers look very different between the two roses. For Your Eyes Only has a deep ink center which sets off the stamens nicely.
Glad you are resting and making small excursions at a time until you regain your strength, Derrick.
That should be “pink” not “ink”. 🙂
Yes, you have it, Lavinia. Thank you very much
Your garden is a delight. Compliments Derrick (and Jackie)
Thank you very much from each of us, Brian
Beautiful flowers 🙂
Thank you very much, Lakshmi
Working in the garden is healing 🙂 Gorgeous photos!
Thank you very much, Riba
You have a stunning garden, Derrick. You must be proud of it. Great photos!
Thank you so much, Steve
I wouldn’t have even guessed they were roses Derrick
🙂 Thank you very much, Sheree
