Damp Decorations

I am not given to blowing my own trumpet but when, having printed off all the photographs of spaghetti that I had taken yesterday,

I got the television going this morning I may have repeated “I done it” more often than was absolutely necessary. This prompted Jackie to reciprocate at every opportunity. We are not, incidentally normal a.m. watchers, but I was so scared that I wouldn’t manage this that I made it my first task in getting the room back. Jackie, on the other hand, had been beavering away rather earlier.

We spent much of the day returning our sitting room to its customary comfort.

All afternoon we were beset with heavy rain, including after dark when Jackie drove me to Byron Road to photograph their traditional

Christmas lights, some of which were reflected in

car windows or

puddles.

Among all the more secular themes there were a number of nativity scenes.

This evening we dined on Mr Pink’s Fish and Chips and Tesco’s wallies with which we both drank Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2018.

  1. Your room is finished? Will we see artfully arranged photos? Just in time for the man in red to arrive too – well done! Terribly impressed with your ability to sort those cords and plugs into the correct sequence again. You are now the epitome of a Modern Man!! 🙂 Oh and PS the Christmas Lights are always stunning in your part of the world! We tend to do little here as you have to wait til 11 pm to go out and admire them ………

  2. I remember these lights from last year- how pretty. The decorations are so beautiful. Merry Christmas to you, Derrick and Jackie!

  3. Good grief – I love Christmas, but couldn’t be bothered with all that fuss and tat. Had enough bother putting our little string of lights up outside the house. Merry Christmas, you two!

  4. Loved the pictures of all the Christmas decorations. But the suspense was killing me… had to scroll waaaay down to finally learn what you drank…….. Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2018 – yes! One of our favorites. Stay dry – and enjoy your Merry Christmas Sunday. <3

  5. It is good that your room is back to order before the festivities begin in earnest. There are two homes in our town that go ‘all out’ with Christmas lights – they provide great joy for the young children. These lights are especially attractive.

  6. Having been displaced about a dozen times,I know the pain of reconfiguring the electronics jungle one is destined to collect over the years. So, I appreciate the sounds of that trumpet. Those Christmas lights do look good, real and reflected. Carry on, my friend!

  7. YAY! I’ll blow a horn for you! Congrats and Way to Go on getting everything going again! 😀 You definitely have a way with spaghetti! 😉 😛
Seeing the lighted decorations AND lights at night makes me go “Ooh!” and “Aah!” I love the lights! Thanks for sharing these with us, Derrick!!! 🙂
    HUGS!!! 🙂

  8. I’m delighted you sorted out the spaghetti.
The Christmas lights look lovely, we need that Christmas cheer when our days are so grey and damp.

    1. Thanks a lot, John. They have been going for 15 years during which time they have raised £80,000 for various charities. Celebrities – Harry Rednap this year – have switched them on. The event has become so popular that this will be the last celebrity opening – this small terraced street can’t cope with the traffic.

  9. Congratulations, Derrick! I knew you could do it! 🙂
Splendid photos, too–and I love the addition of the reflections in car windows and puddles. (Of course.) The lights certainly brighten up a dreary night.

  10. Well done, Derrick! I have a liking problem I have not yet fixed (an irritating technical issue with my browser). If and when I can fix it, I will follow your lead in announcing “I fixed it” to anyone who will listen. Until then, I will try not to be too disgruntled and hope you can sense my muffled likes from afar.

I love the light display and the reflections. The Ho Ho picture particularly appealed to me.

  11. The Christmas lights photos are beautiful, Derrick! Good to see your electronics up and running, too!

The days start getting longer now. Won’t be long before spring is here.
