The Last Set

I have dozed away most of the day. Yesterday I wrote that I had fled to bed early. In fact I obviously have a virus which I did not manage to sleep off.

Emily is compiling a selection of photographs of her father. I have sent her links to more than 100 from my posts.

These two are from ‘The Birthday Girl’ when we gathered to celebrate Jacqueline’s birthday.

I drank half the contents of a tin of tomato soup at 5 p.m. and will go to bed early again.

  1. Those are wonderful photos of Michael, Derrick. He was a good-hearted, handsome fellow.

Sleep is indeed a good thing, Mother Nature’s gift to the weary of mind and body to help heal life’s many wounds. Give our best to Jackie, too.

  2. Lovely photographs of Michael, he looks very much like you Derrick. Get plenty rest and hope you soon get over the virus x

  3. Sorry you’re not feeling well Derrick. Great Pics of Michael. I am sure Emily appreciated you gathering all the photos of Michael. So bitter sweet.

  4. You have been through an awful lot just recently Derrick I’m not surprised your body and spirit is crying out for some respite. I love that photo of Michael you have used as a header. Such a kind looking man – perhaps a lot like yourself. Take care xo

  5. God bless you with respite and returned energy and health. Sorry to hear you’re not up to snuff… but you will be again soon. Your Michael was one handsome dude, to be sure! He inherited his father’s good looks. I am sure Emily is loving the opportunity to revisit her dad through your collection of photos. Thanks for sharing a couple of them with us. <3 Hugs! <3

    1. in terms of virus! On the other hand, Iโ€™m pleased that I havenโ€™t been chucked out of your post today. Yesterday, I was able to catch glimpses and then wasnโ€™t able to comment.
Anyway, Iโ€™m glad that your blog has helped Emily collect photos of her father.

      1. As I’ve got older I’ve found that time and rest are more important. Not casting any aspersions but maybe even a marathon running second row with bionic knees needs to have a rest. ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Wonderful photos and great memories! Coming to grips with this kind of an unimaginable loss takes a lot of time, and you are dealing with it bravely, Derrick. My heart goes out to you!

  7. Oh, Derrick, no wonder you got sick. You have been through so much and are still trying to heal from your operation. It is lovely that you have been able to capture and now share so many beautiful photos. That photo you used as your header is really stunning. I think of you and Jackie many times every day and always send a warm hug when I do. Feel better, my friend.

  8. The last 8 years i lost my father .. my husband and my sister!!! My son lives from a miracle .. i can understand you Derrick!!! I wish nobody feel such pain …but that is life …

Send you a huge hug and my love!!!

  9. Aw ๐Ÿ™ I hope you feel better soon, Derrick.
Handsome Michael! Handsome like his Dad! And you both have such sincere welcoming infectious smiles! ๐Ÿ™‚
It makes me so sad that he is gone so soon…too soon. ๐Ÿ™
My continued prayers, condolences, <3 and (((HUGS)))
PS… Hot tomato soup always makes me feel a bet better.

  10. I’m glad you’re feeling a bit better today after your wise decision to take some extra rest. I just read a post called ‘Emily Goes Wandering’ and there is a lovely picture in that one (two actually). Michael’s eye crinkles suggest a life with much laughter.

  11. What a handsome man, your son was Derrick. Beautiful photographs. I hope that you are feeling better soon – doesn’t surprise me that you have come down with the virus. Take care.
