A Little Dead-Heading

Before Martin arrived today, the Head Gardener’s Walk had disappeared from view.

This is how he left it.

He reshaped a tree in need of a trim,

giving the Viburnum Plicatum beneath it more room to breathe;

and mowed the lawn as usual, while

I managed a little dead-heading of poppies like these in the Chilean Lantern Tree Bed, also containing orange calendula and bluebells.

This evening Flo dined on succulent roast pork, crisp roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding; cauliflower, carrots, and green beans, with which she abstained. Jackie and I enjoyed the hotter paprika pork with her flavoursome savoury rice, with which she drank Hoegaarden and I finished the Bordeaux.

  1. Good work on your dead-heading, Derrick! 🙂
    When I hear dead-heading I always think of The Grateful Dead band. Ha. 🙂 If Grateful Dead fans dead-headed gardens they would be DeadHeads doing dead-heading. Ha! 🙂 Okay, I’ll leave now. 😉
    (((HUGS))) 🙂
    PS…Martin does magnificent work! With Jackie, you, and him at work, it’s no wonder the garden looks amazing! 🙂
    PPS…I spotted an owl! 🙂

  2. Nice work by Martin! I’m glad you’re not getting up on the ladder. It seems like you’ve had a nice stretch of beautiful weather. The garden looks lovely, Derrick.

  3. Your before and after photos are always inspiring, and I love that dragon! I’ve got plenty for Martin to do on this side of the Atlantic if he’d like to visit the Carolina Coast.

  4. Martin does nice work! I am glad you and Jackie have good help. We would also have plenty of work for Martin if he ever visited the west coast. 🙂

  5. It’s a pity how the dead headed among the humans do not get dead-headed. I am, of course, thinking of brazen politicians of our times. The Head Gardener’s Path is now clear as the light of day.

  6. Your garden always looks pretty. I’m off duty from weeding and cutting back today because it’s raining! But as soon as the clouds clear I’ll be back out taming the growth.

  7. Good to see you did the lion’s share of the work, Derrick 🙂 But, seriously, good job you did not get up the ladder. There comes a time when it is no longer bravado, simply stupidity.
