Muted Colour

Grey ponies beside Whitemoor Pond on our morning forest drive

blended perfectly with the colour of the day.

Even the autumn leaves and bracken looked washed out,

and the rippling reflections on the surface above the rust-coloured bed of Ober Water, were not exactly scintillating.

Ponies and a foal foraged alongside

Rhinefield Road.

A herd of deer could be seen in the distance from Lower Sandy Down.

We lunched at Fleur de Lys, photographed here on a much brighter day, after which I drafted a review for Secret Diners, of which this is a copy: https://derrickjknight.com/?p=205521&preview=true which may require some editorial editing.

This evening we all dined on further portions of yesterday’s pasta meal with the addition of plentiful spinach, with which Jackie drank Hoegaarden and I drank more of the Malbec.

  1. Often the muted colours are the prettiest ones…most quiet…most peaceful. I enjoy soft muted colours and the occasional soft muted day. šŸ™‚
Love Pony in the Woodland and Lower Sandy Down photos!! šŸ™‚
Ooh! Yummy on plentiful spinach! šŸ™‚

    1. Thanks very much, Zakiah. I can’t make it work, either. Perhaps I’ll get it right when it is published

  2. I always like the winding roads and the ponies, especially the grey ponies. They remind me that I used to have a grey horse many, many years ago.

    1. Thank you so much, Merril. That would have been the header had I not wanted to reflect the title

  3. It seems that the animals don’t mind the gray sky there, that same gray we’ve had here all day. It makes you tired. ????

  4. The ponies’ coats are getting shaggier with the onset of the cold season. I very much enjoy seeing these views of the countryside in bright color or in muted colors. You live in a special place.

  5. What a lovely drive out you had.
Iā€™m assuming the reason we canā€™t see the lunch link is because itā€™s not published yet.
Thank you very much for the post, Iā€™m looking forward to seeing it and would love to publish it on Secret Diners this Saturday. šŸ™‚ I can work from a copy of the whole page if youā€™d like to send it to me.

  6. Some of the pics are not viewable but I know those must be as beautiful as the ones viewable. The link is also not working. My bad luck. Mustt bee something wrong with the app.

    1. I’m sorry about the pics. The link isn’t working because the post is still in draft – I’ll be able to fix it when it is posted – sorry about that, too

  7. I think the grey weather has finally caught up with us after a stretch of sunny, dry days. I haven’t seen any ponies roaming around though – only Thanksgiving traffic. And that is not half as intriguing.
