I felt so much better today that I was beginning to get itchy feet, especially when Jackie and Flo went for a shopping trip this afternoon. Common sense prevailed and I stayed at home and read four more chapters of ‘Bleak House’.
Earlier, I had posted https://derrickjknight.com/2022/04/06/a-knights-tale-123-nearing-leicester/
Later, I scanned the next set of Charles Keeping’s inimitable illustrations to Dickens’s novel.
‘Near journey’s end’ is startlingly accurate.
‘A very quiet night’ demonstrates the artist’s ease with architecture.
In ‘Mr Bucket takes Quebec and Malta on his knees’ the child’s expression displays her doubt about the unusual attention from a virtual stranger.
A mother’s tenderness is portrayed in ‘I used to lay my small namesake in her arms’
This evening we dined on Jackie’s wholesome cottage pie with sautéed potato topping; crunchy carrots, firm broccoli, and tender runner beans, followed by rice pudding which, having been left in my charge, needed a certain amount of revivification.
Four more chapters? Hmmm. Must be in bed… I will go back in time to previous posts…
Thanks a lot, Brian
I’m glad that you are feeling better, Derrick! Go take a walk, fresh air is good for you.
Thanks a lot, John
I’m so glad you’re feeling better, Derrick!
Thanks very much, Liz
You’re welcome, Derrick.
How about a stroll around the garden tomorrow for some fresh air?
I’m so happy you are all getting better. It’s scary these days when someone says they don’t feel feel!!
Thanks a lot, GP. That is a possibility
Glad you’re feeling better. Maybe a forest drive tomorrow?
Maybe – we’ll see. Thanks very much, Pat
I’m glad you–and the others–are feeling better!
You have me wondering about the rice pudding.
I left it in too long, so it had to be softened with more milk. Thanks very much, Merril
Ahh. Got it.
What form did the revivication take?
Scraping the crusty bits off the top and adding more milk. Thank you so much for asking, Sheree 🙂
Rice pudding baked in the oven. I confess to making mine on the hob because I hate the skin.
Good to know you’re starting to feel better Derrick
Thanks very much, John
I am glad that you are feeling better, Derrick. Of this fabulous set of Mr Keeping’s illustrations, I find the first one most impressive.
Yes. The open mouth before the tidying up by those laying out did their work was most telling. Thanks very much, Dolly
The pleasure is mine, Derrick.
Of course your mention of Mr. Bucket took me straight back to the television series, “Keeping Up Appearances,” and Hyacinth’s insistence that the name should be pronounced “Bouquet.” My mother and I used to watch the show regularly, and laughed mightily at the pretension and highjinks. I’m glad you’re feeling better, and I appreciate the memories!
Thanks very much, Linda. I always think of Hyacinth when his name crops up, too
Glad you are back on the mend.
Thank 7you very much, Mrs W
You’re welcome.
So glad you are all feeling better!
Thanks very much, Laurie
You are yhe new expert on Dickens!
Just for a while – I won’t remember it all for long 🙂 Thanks very much, Sylvie
Who cares!
🙂
So so SO glad you are feeling better, Derrick!
That last Mr. Keeping illustration is amazing and got me joy-teary-eyed!
Revivification! Great word! So I am assuming the rice pudding got revivificated. ??? HA! I mean revivified. I’m sure you were the revivificator for the job and did wonders revivificating the pudding!!! HA! 😀
Okay, I’ll leave now before I get kicked out! 😉 😛
(((HUGS))) 🙂
Just take your coat, Carolyn 🙂 Thanks very much XX
HA! I’ll pick up my shoes, too! 😀
🙂
So happy to read that you’re much improved, Derrick.
Thanks very much, Sylvia
I’m relieved to hear common sense prevailed and that you’re feeling better. This is the best news I’ve heard all day, Derrick. xo
Thank you so much, Jill
Sorry to hear you’ve been unwell Derrick. More good reading sounds therapeutic. As does a good walk in the great outdoors. Take care.
Thank you very much, Miriam
An outbreak of common sense? That is refreshingly unusual these days.
Occasionally I surprise myself. Thanks very much, Tootlepedal
I am glad that you are feeling better, Derrick. That architectural sketch is stunning in all of it’s detail.
Thank you very much, AnneMarie
Glad that the recuperation continues for all!
Thanks very much, Maj
I’m glad you stayed home and are feeling well enough to have itchy feet. 🙂
Thank you so much, JoAnna
I’m pleased your in the mend. The Spring like weather must be helping 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks very much, Gary. I have to admit not caring about the weather 🙂
Keeping was an exceptionally gifted artist. Thanks to you for letting me savour his delicious, precious illustrations.
Much appreciated, Uma
Derrick … you had ONE job. Sheesh! Glad the pudding could be revived.
I’m glad you’re feeling better enough to want to go out. Our rules are constantly changing, but at the moment it is, if you suspect you have COVID you are to confirm via a Rapid Antigen Test or PCR Test, and you are to report the result, which latter is relatively easily done. Then you must self-isolate for 7 days from the day you were tested. You can only leave self-isolation after 7 days if you do not have a sore throat, runny nose, cough or shortness of breath. Even then you are to take precautions in interacting with people for a further 3 days.
We currently have a number of people in our complex who are holed up in this scenario. I have been doing a door drop of café coffee for one couple for last few days.
Thanks very much, Gwen. Yes, but I’m poorly 🙂 Actually our rules are relaxed to advice now.
I’m sorry to hear you are poorly. Let’s hope it passes soon.
I suspected the UK rules were much more relaxed now. The scale and spread are probably too much to try to keep track of.
There is not really much point, now. “I’m poorly” was a tongue in cheek excuse for failing in my one job 🙂
Not like me to miss such a subtle witticism. Maybe I too am ailing.
🙂
Wow –
You got thru another four chapters – and enjoyed the images you scanned
Thanks very much, Yvette
As always, the illustration of a building is extremely good, and very atmospheric.
Thank you very much, John
Glad you’re ‘on the mend’ Derrick. You’ve done well to keep the posts going. My best wishes to you and thanks for your always thoroughly engaging posts and pictures. Roland (aka WHB).
Thanks very much, Roland
I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better!
Thank you very much, Ribana
I am glad you are feeling much better, Derrick, and that you are taking care of yourself and staying home right now. Sometimes it does not take much physical effort when recovering to trigger a setback.
Revivification – yes!! The pudding and you – both the better for having a little crustiness removed … no fun being down and out, huh Derrick? But I’m so glad common sense prevailed. Pass some of that around. The world needs more of it. Gotcha in prayer for returned health and a chance to get out & about today, Derrick. Hugs! 👍🏽🤗❤️🙏🏽
Thank you so much, Jan X
Hi Derrick. I hope you and your family are getting better. (That is a nasty virus…)
Thanks very much, Brian. We are improving
Good. One day at a time…
Thank goodness and more that you are reviving nicely, soon to feel more your self once more, Derrick!
Thank you so much, Cynthia
