Can It Be Mid-October?

The lingering virus from which we have now recovered has really rather reduced gardening for a month. Today, I wandered around on a survey mission, and was pleasantly impressed.

The grass could do with cutting, but there is also colour in abundance.

or bees frequenting asters.

This evening we dined on Jackie’s delicious pasta beef arrabiata. Her beverage was Hoegaarden, and mine Santa Julia malbec 2015.

  1. I too thought it seemed the wrong time for fuchsias in profusion. We’ve got ’em too. And roses, but not such good specimens as yours. Our gardening expertise and application is way outstripped by those Johhny-Come-Latelys to the new Forest, so I’m amazed we’ve even got what we’ve got.

  4. I’m tired of breathing air conditioned air, but at least I can open my windows at night. We’re about 8 degrees above the average temperature for this time of year. Doesn’t seem like a lot, but it keeps increasing every year. Maybe we should all move to Antarctica. 🙂

  6. Such beautiful colors–that grass! It does look like spring. Some trees here in southern New Jersey have turned, though many are still all or mostly green. I was surprised though to see grape hyacinth.

      1. I’m in South Jersey, too Derrick, like Merril above, and our weather is similar to yours. It’s as though many of the plants that hated our summer are coming forth to love our fall. We have clematises blooming as well, and some of the gardens look lovelier than they have all year.

  8. Beautiful photos – it is amazing isn’t it? We have had quite a few variety of bees buzzing around the garden, not to mention a few gnats and our nasturtiums are in abundance. We’ll be turning our clocks back in a few weeks.

  10. The garden must be a sight for sore eyes, eh, Derrick and Jackie? Such pretty colours in mid-October. We’ve been having a mild autumn here too, though the leaves have started changing colour on maples and oaks.

  17. Sounds like you are having the weather that we should be having. It has been COLD (below 10ºC at night) but we’ve already had temperatures of over 30ºC in the day too. My garden plants are also confused.

  18. When you said “lingering virus” I thought it was going to be the computer rather than your good selves! A lovely garden still, we’ve been a little battered by rain, of late and it’s been quite cold this week.

  20. Very, very mild here, too. We haven’t even had a frost yet. I’m of two thoughts: It’s very weird, but I must admit that I love it.
