Shelf in Utility Room

This morning we began preparations for the kitchen work beginning on Monday. First, a table in the Utility Room was cleared to receive the electric kettle, toaster, and microwave during the two weeks the Culinary Queen will be deprived of other cooking facilities.

Then began the clearing of the cupboards and packing their contents into boxes Jackie has collected in recent weeks.

The containers were then transported to the Library.

This afternoon, I watched televised Six Nations rugby matches between Ireland and Italy, and between England and Wales.

The Culinary Queen has committed much of her creations to the freezer, but we were able to enjoy a second helping of yesterday’s beef in red wine this evening. I kept back a bottle of Reserve des Tuguets Madiran 2014 and made a start on that.

  1. Renovations are always a complete pain while they are in motion, but usually a complete delight when all is finished. My best wishes for a smooth and happy outcome <3 I shall read with interest of your evening meal delights created without a working kitchen!

  2. Good luck on the kitchen renovation Derrick. Went thru that ordeal several years ago at our former Dallas home.. It wasn’t fun trying to make do with the microwave in the garage and rummaging thru boxes looking for stuff needed.. but the end result was worth it. Will await the new reno photos when complete. Gary

  3. Well, here you go! We did a full move-out-of-the- kitchen redo about 5 years ago. I know it was a hassle, but it’s so nice now I don’t even remember the bad parts. Hoping your down time is fast and painless.

  4. What a horrible job having to pack all the kitchen contents up! I did it nine years ago when we had new work-tops, new tiles and a new hob. We have to empty the living room in a few weeks time and I’ve no idea where we shall put all the furniture! I hope it all goes smoothly – best of luck!

  5. Hope everything goes exactly to plan. I trust you didn’t find too many tins of things you don’t much like and can’t imagine why you bought that expired in 2016 during the packing up process.

      1. You can’t believe how delighted I was to see your name in my notifications. This will seem completely crackers but it felt almost as if a character in a novel had stepped out of the book and started to talk. I’ve read a lot of books but never had that experience before!

      1. I am not sure gin has a sell by date. Why not wait a bit longer and put some fruit and sugar in it and see how it turns out. Hang on, this is a mythical bottle I’m talking about, isn’t it? I see to have reality and fiction mixed up this morning!

  6. Wow, this is exciting. It’s a pain to live in footless chaos (or just chaos) for a while, but you seem to have nice restaurants nearby, so that will help. I hope it’s all Jackie’s hoping for when it’s finished (and that it finishes on time!).

  7. Here’s to your new kitchen-in-waiting! Folks at Lal Quilla would be happy to serve their best to you folks while the spanking new hearth is taking shape.

  8. Phew! What a job and how disruptive. I am eager to see the new kitchen that the culinary queen so richly deserves.

  9. I can relate of course, being just a fortnight ahead of you. I’m now in the best part of the process – putting things back and luxuriating in the wonderful new facilities. It’s been more challenging for B, who’s had the frustrating task of dealing with the snags and the odd jobs that seem to take for ever. But definitely worth the hassle and I’m sure yours will be too šŸ™‚

  10. Oh I so remember packing up my kitchen when I had a completely new one installed.. Good luck with the packing.. And I hope all goes well with the renovations.. I remember not all things got put back into the new kitchen.. I had a massive clear out.
I cant say have a restful Sunday, because you will no doubt be busy.. But take care and have a great week.. <3 šŸ™‚
