High Street Gallery

This afternoon Jackie drove Elizabeth and me to Lyndhurst so that my sister could replenish her cabinet at the Antiques Centre. This gave me the opportunity to perch on a bench alongside the high street where I was able to watch the world going by, and, of course photographing visitors galore. This selection of photographs is virtually random. Although each bears a title in the gallery

You will see in each shot what catches your own eye or imagination. I will just highlight the sequence where a couple of dog walkers approach Paws in the Forest from one direction, and pass a little girl, coming down the hill with her mother, and enjoying an ice cream , some of which drips onto her forearm.

This evening the three of us dined on Jackie’s splendid sausage casserole; swede mash; crunchy carrots, and firm cauliflower. Jackie drank Hoegaarden and Elizabeth and I drank Mendoza Parra Alta Malbec 2017

  1. You know Derrick, stumbling upon your blog ,been such a magical incident for me . I use to click a lot but from past 1.5 years was so caught up with my baby and household work ,that whatever inspired me or made me happy took a backseat . But since the day ,I started blogging and going through your photographs, I took out my camera and started clicking random photos once again and now my toddler is my model. Today bought a cannon EF-s 55- 250 mm lense 🙂
I so love your clicks .
Much love and hugs to you .

    1. That is such a heartening response, Witty. I am so pleased to be inspirational, and do appreciate your comments. I have always taken family photographs, but on film which is more expensive and more restrictive. I only turned to digital soon after I started blogging, so that I could post on the same day. Retirement has made it all possible. Enjoy your baby photography especially. X

  2. It’s like every possible mode of transport and type of person wandered into your field of vision today Derrick. I noted that icecreams are very popular with all ages and while I think the biker is holding something in his right hand, it clearly isn’t an icecream, but wouldn’t it have been a great shot if it were 🙂

    1. Thanks very much, Pauline. Everything traffic-wise has to go through this narrow high street. If you check the full size box then biggity I think you’ll find he’s not holding anything, but has a neckerchief. It certainly would have been a great shot. Bikers are all softies, really

  3. You make people-watching a true art form, Derrick.
Each photo is wonderful, but together they are really splendid.
I laughed at the young man slouching in rumbled clothing under a chiropractor’s sign and next to the dry cleaning sign. And everyone seems to be enjoying ice cream. How did you resist? 🙂

  4. How nice to end the work week with a trip to the streets! People watching is one of my favorite things to do…thank you for allowing me to do it from the comforts of home. 🙂

  5. That is exquisite street photography: those are fascinating shots as ever! I guess I’d get shot for a shooting spree like that –by the objects of the camera rather than the law enforcing authorities. Is that an Austin parked outside Austin & Wyatt? The girl in the last picture is especially cute.

  6. Delightful street and people-watching photos, Derrick! I spy-ed all the doggies, cars, flowers and ice cream cones! Even spotted the Chiropractor’s office!
Looks like everyone having fun on a nice day!
    HUGS!!! 🙂

  7. What a great pictorial display, one of your best, Loved the bloke with the odd socks, and that Morgan, in the traditional colour English Racing Green by the look of it. Loved the dogs plenty to choose from; I’ll go for the spaniel. All in all a great collection of scruffy looking Poms. Loved it!~
