Down To The Sea

Yesterday evening I watched a recording of the Six Nations rugby match between England and Scotland; this morning one of the match between Ireland and Wales.

After lunch I posted https://derrickjknight.com/2022/02/06/a-knights-tale-99-1987-part-two/

Elizabeth e-mailed a selection of her photographs from yesterday.

Two ponies;

the cattle by the stream;

and me.

Heavy winds having howled throughout the night, we drove to Highcliffe this afternoon to have a look at the sea, which proved to be very brisk. Intermittent gusts of rain rivalled the flying salt water.

I left Jackie in the Modus and others on the clifftop as I made my way down to the waters below.

This involved negotiating sections of steep, deeply waterlogged steps alternating with slippery slopes. I leaned on the wooden rails to let these surfboarders pass.

Various couples and other groups ventured onto the rocky breakwaters. Some were somewhat sprayed.

A nonchalant crow on the rocks ignored the waters.

While intrepid human surfers frolicked on

the wild waves

A determined little dog thought about joining them, until he lost interest and trotted back to his family group.

This evening, dining on Jackie’s savoury rice with a rack of spare ribs, vegetable spring rolls, and tempura prawns from plates on trays, while seated on the sofa in front of the telly, we watched a recording of the Six Nations match between France and Italy. The Culinary Queen drank Hoegaarden and I drank more of the Rioja.

  1. I hope you are very vigilant when the waves are that angry! Our lifeguards close the walkways down to the water when the waves become that strong!

  2. Like you, we sat in front of the telly for dinner, too. We watched the winter Olympics. Thank you for those wonderful pictures of the sea… I could smell the salt water and feel the spray! <3 Oh, and congratulations to Elizabeth for some pretty impressive photos there! <3

  3. Pretty wet in my neck of the woods to, but have no idea what the coastline is like. Public holiday here today Waitangi Day which was officially yesterday. Celebrations extremely quiet due the “red” covid setting. Most of it online, including the PM’s speech to the nation.

    Surfers love will weather…

  4. I was an avid surfer back in my younger days Derrick, but winter surfing was not possible because I couldn’t afford a wetsuit

  5. Elizabeth’s photos are wonderful! Thank you to her for sharing them with us! 🙂
    Love your photos of the wild waves AND the brave, but smart little doggie! 🙂
    I love getting some vitamin sea! 🙂

  6. Some enjoyable rugby this weekend, and some less enjoyable. 🙂

    I see your sister is followed by the same old codger that is always getting in the way in Jackie’s photos. 🙂

  7. Your supper sounds delicious. Dan had to work tonight and I shoveled snow this afternoon, so we made do with porkchops, instant noodles, mixed vegetables and water to drink. ?

  8. “…negotiating sections of steep, deeply waterlogged steps alternating with slippery slopes” sounds pretty adventurous… and a little risky. Be careful! Elizabeth did a great job capturing your enthusiasm and the white pony with her camera.

  9. Elizabeth is doing very well under your tutelage. Meanwhile, you have been the intrepid shooter along the seaside. The dog’s quickly switching moods have been marvellously brought home to us.

  10. JoAnna said everything I was about to say.
    Those people getting soaked in the sea spray looked as though they were taking their lives in their hands!

  11. You have a family of photographers! Kudos to the Knights!
    Isn’t that white horse fantastic. What a majestic animal!

  12. Elizabeth got some great shots!
    I love the wild waves in your photos. I get mesmerized watching waves hit the rocks. I like the nonchalant crow, and the series with the little dog.

  13. That is a nice selection of photos of ponies and Elizabeth’s brother the photographer at work.

    Those surf boarders are a hardy lot. It looks quite cold as well as windy down on the shore. The dog was very sensible not to follow.
