This morning Jackie and I transported another car load of garden refuse to the recycling centre then continued into the forest for a short drive.
The Pilley Community Shop has moved along the road to the Community Centre.
Ponies, including a young one, are still congregating outside. It seems that no-one has told the animals.
What, we wonder is the attraction of brick walls to these creatures?
The recent rain has not added any water to the lake along
Jordan’s lane.
The still dry bed is surrounded by signs of early autumn,
although ponies on the level above find some nourishment as they blend with turning leaves.
This evening we dined on a variety of pizzas and fresh salad with which Jackie drank more of the French white wine, Flo and Dillon drank Ribena, and I drank more of the Shiraz.
Ok Shiraz is wine, this time I am certain π
I am pleased to educate you π Thanks very much, Bridget
No education necessary. I was a ‘wino’ until my husband’s heart surgery. Red wine was my go to place to unwind. π
I wonder if the ponies get an equine discount in the store. I really hope your autumn rains arrive soon.
We are getting some showers, Pat. Thanks very much π
I was just thinking of adding pizza and fresh salad to my dinner rotation!
Good for the hot weather. Thanks very much, Barbara
Perhaps someone there usually hands out carrots? I love the way the ponies edge into the villages.
Still no joy with WP. I was asked to empty the cache of cookies and data. I did as instructed but I had the same problems. I told him my easy work around the problem was to click the text extract instead of clicking VISIT, he couldn’t understand why that would work. I assured him it did. I also found that using the WordPress App to access the reader instead of going directly online also allows comments. So that’s what I’ll do from now on.
You could have an issue with cross-site tracking, depending on which browser you’re using. Even if you don’t see the banner shown in this WordPress article, you might be affected.Once I allowed cross-site tracking for WordPress and my blog URLS, no problem.
Thank you very much, I will take a look at the settings.
To Shoreacres – Again, thank you very much for your advice.
Firefox appears to be the problem on both my laptop and desktop computer, while Google has no problems.
I took a look at the Safari settings on the iPad (taking your advice) and was immediately reminded that we had this problem two or three years back following an Apple update. I always find Updates are more bother than they are worth!
I canβt remember exactly how it was righted back then, I think I temporarily disabled Cross checking. Looking at the settings today I saw that Cross-site-tracking was still disabled. So as a temporary measure I enabled it while I did my early morning WP visits and was able to comment without problems. For security reasons Iβm not happy leaving it enabled, so Iβll disable it again when Iβve finished here.
Funny how we have our little routines. I prefer to use my iPad for WordPress commenting and site visits while drinking my early morning coffee, usually while sat up in bed, itβs a relaxing start to my day. My computer is switched on later in the day when Iβm ready to write or be a little creative. Again, many thanks, π
It is so pleasing to see this exchange between two of my friends
Thank you Derrick. One of the pleasures of blogging.
Indeed
For Firefox, be sure you have the latest version. Then, go to settings/privacy and security. Under Enhanced Tracking Protection, click standard. Then, scroll down on that page to Cookies and Site Data. Click “Manage exceptions” and add in WordPress and your URLs, and you should be good to go. If there’s a certain blog you visit that has a custom URL, you could add that, too, if you have problems.
These little glitches can be so frustrating!
Firefox updates regularly, almost too often. I blame the updates for causing the recent problems that so many of us are experiencingwhen attempting to leave comments.
I had a look at that yesterday, went in with a sledgehammer and deleted everything.
Iβm hoping the next update gets rid of the bugs. Thank you very much, Linda.
Yes, Sue, I think they must have been fed there. It does’t surprise me that you know more than the HEs do.
Thank you Derrick, Many times itβs trial and error. π
The recent rains haven’t added water … I am all too familiar with that problem. We are experiencing some fairy light rain (fairy – as in very light; almost delicate) tonight which is serving to freshen the air and is doing an excellent job of watering the lawn and my seedlings – perhaps even filling the bird baths (I will see in the morning), but it isn’t nearly enough to cause run-off or to seep into the ground … still, we remain grateful.
Thank you for explaining fairy was not a typo π
I’m sorry to hear that the recent rains were not enough to raise your water levels.
Thanks very much, Liz
You’re welcome, Derrick.
Hard for me to imagine your recent weather in the UK. Not good at all. The ponies are lovely.
Thank you so much, Cindy
Beautiful animals. Love their coat, shiny and smooth. I am sorry about the dryness of the land. Pitiful! We need rain too, the grass is dying in several areas. The weather man has pacifier in his mouth, and won’t talk much about rain. period! But, fortunately, the temperatures are more tolerable.
Thanks very much, Zakiah
Golly, you are looking more autumnal than us.
Amazing. Thanks a lot, Tootlepedal
How dry everything still looks. Such a sweet portrait of the young pony. Wonderful!
Thank you very much, Laurie
Someone who speaks Equine should tell them! π π
That young pony has such a sweet face! π
That last photo of ponies and autumn leave is so beautiful! π
(((HUGS))) β€οΈ
PS…We’re gonna’ make a homemade veggie thin-crust pizza for our meal tonight. π
Thanks very much, Carolyn X
Teh ponies may like the wall for as a scratching post or a mineral lick. Just guessing π
I will investigate. Thanks very much, Sherry
I wonder if the ponies are doing the same thing butterflies do: using the brick for the salts or minerals that collect on the surface. Especially in your heat, that might be a possibility — like the salt blocks put out for cattle.
Thanks very much, Linda. I must ask someone who will know
I wondered about that, too.
Perhaps ponies think that their own coloring looks advantageous with brick walls as background.
Thanks very much, Dolly π
You are very welcome, Derrick.
Your photo of the ponies gathering at the letterbox and the Community Shop are intriguing Derrick … I’ll file them … I have some interesting thoughts already …
Interesting, Ivor. Thank you very much
Iβm tired and sore.. hopefully Iβll come up something
In the circumstances I am even more pleased to inspire you, my friend
Like the 10 Commandments, my dream may take time to come to fruition
Iwonder if the ponies are attracted to the cooler temperature of the brick walls ~ ~ Your lakes look like our rivers, the source of all the water for the Western US — Hopefully the rains will begin early this year, and will be the soaking kind of rain rather than flooding the countryside!
I must feel a brick wall in the shade. I have never thought of that, Janet. Thanks very much
I worry about Flo and Dillonβs Ribena habit. Itβs really bad for the teeth.
Perhaps itβs sugar free.
Fruit juices are worse than Coke
I didn’t realise that. Does that also include fresh orange? I usually have a glass every morning with breakfast. Thank you very much, Sheree.
Iβm afraid it does Sue, though Apple is the worst. You should clean your teeth before breakfast and wait before consuming your juice. Hereβs an article you may find to be of interest. https://biomin.co.uk/news/article/brushing-breakfast-advantages-cleaning-your-teeth-you-eat
Thank you so much, Sheree, much appreciated.
Youβre very welcome
Thanks a lot Sheree. They both have excellent teeth
At the moment butβ¦β¦..
Maybe someone at the old shop fed or watered the ponies. I hope the new tenants/owners will appreciate them.
I imagine so, JoAnna. In fact the lease has expired and the owners want to convert it back to a dwelling, so this will take some time. Thanks very much
A variety of pizzas sounds heavenly! Great shots!
Thanks very much, Jill
Poor ponies. I hope there is rain and cooler weather coming.
We now have a few showers and the weather is cooling, AnneMarie. Thanks very much
It added intrigue to your day for sure.
Thanks very much, Andy
You’re welcome.
Early Autumn here too Derrick, the trees have given up.
Thanks a lot, Andrew
Perhaps the bricks are cooler for their heads?
It does seem likely, for whatever reason
I am frighening , Derrick, to see the dry bed of a river and I wonder what the ponies will eat this autumn ?
My oldest daugter , the “Duchess” owns 7 horses and starts to be interrogative !
In friendship
Michel
Thank you very much, Michel. Would she know why ponies stand facing brick walls in shade?
Wonderful collection of pony photos, Derrick!
I hope you get more rain soon.
Thanks very much, Merril
It will take many rains to fill the ponds up again. It may take the ponies a while to figure out the source of handouts has moved, although there will probably be another shop of some sort there before long.
Thanks very much, Lavinia. The shop was leasehold in an extension the owners of which, on expiry of the lease, have applied to return the building to residential use.
What secret communion the ponies and cattle could be holding with walls and similar stationary objects has been a perpetual wonder to me too. Crisp and clear photos, as usual.
Thank you very much, Uma
Who knows why they are attracted by those brick walls βΊοΈ π΄
Intriguing it is, Ribana. Thanks very much
