Throughout the garden we have prolific clusters of small orange and yellow poppies that shed their petals each day. Regular dead-heading encourages further growth. It has been one of my tasks to carry out this task. Today I did so for the first time since before my surgery.
I took my time over it, and paused for pit-stops along the way when, seated on chairs and benches that would have been too low for me six weeks ago, I photographed something else, such as the New Bed, the Rose Garden, the Oval Bed, day lilies, hostas, urns, and other planters.
Jackie continued what she regards as her garden housework.
This afternoon we drove to Everton Post Office and sent a parcel to New Zealand.
During the passages when my eyes were open, I then watched the World Cup football match between Sweden and Switzerland.
This evening we dined on Mr Pink’s Fish and Chips, and pickled onions. Jackie drank Hoegaarden and I finished the Fleurie.
Soon we will settle down to watch the England v. Colombia football match.

Happy you are getting around. Be well Derrick.
Many thanks, Drew
The garden is looking great–must be the excellent deadheading. π So glad you’re getting around so much more easily now, Derrick.
Many thanks, Merril π
What a paradise! The gorgeous fruits of Jackie and your βgarden houseworkβ are a sight to behold. Happy to know youβre doing well, Derrick!
Thanks very much, Rose
The photo that you used as today’s header is absolutely stunning! This garden is a joy – you have no idea how it lifts my spirits at this time of the year! (I spent an hour clearing away the dead and dying and drowned vegetation from my wee plot yesterday – now nothing more can be done until the sun comes a little closer to my side.) In my search to biggify your header I was able to enjoy the many views of Jackie at her work. What a star!! So glad to hear you are going further, getting lower and able to contribute to the deadheading fully again. And a smile when I read about the trip to the post office xoxo
π I’m so pleased that we can lift your spirits, Pauline. Many thanks
Yes – that header is amazing!
Great minds Jodie π
I DID think it before I even saw your comment, Pauline, so I agree we are great. : )
So glad to hear things are getting easier for you! Such lovely housework!
Thanks very much, Lynn
Glad to hear you’re back to dead-heading, Derrick. The garden looks beautiful! We recorded the England game, so we’ll be watching soon.
Thanks very much, Jill. I’ll say nothing about the game, then
Much appreciated!
Great to know you can get out into the garden.
Many thanks, Peggy
Congrats on making progress since your surgery! That must feel great. And you have such a lovely garden.
Thank you very much, Cathi
I’ve always said there’s no end to ‘housework’, and in this case, it’s true! I don’t know how Jackie gets it all done, and takes a little time to relax and enjoy a ride. She is a marvel, and so are you, for recovering so quickly!
Many thanks, Diane
“Garden housework” – I love that.
Good thing you are well enough to move around Derrick. Enjoy gardening!
Thanks very much, Arlene
So glad you are able to move about again and what a splendid place to moe around in, simply gorgeous!!! π <3 xoxoxo

HUGS to you and Jackie!!! π
Thanks very much from us. both, Carolyn X
Your garden is a true inspiration! Hope you were happy with the football result!
Thanks a lot, Andrew. Not really a fan, but my current immobility has got me into this one. Very pleased for the lads after the mauling and head-buts
This garden is glorious. I especially love the hanging baskets, which create such a cozy feeling.. every possible space the eyes could fall on filled.
Many thanks, Judy
Lovely place to do oneβs chores, Derrick.
Thanks very much, Jean. This was in the Spam
The poppies are beautiful! Many photos had me stop and admire the lovely gardens.
We were happy to see Sweden win, England win and were neutral as far as Japan and Belgium. Sometimes, Randy and I were rooting a little bit more for Japan as those shorter men gained our respect. ππ
Hope you have been feeling stronger and good to know you have advanced your gardening skills once healing more, Derrick.
Very many thanks, Robin. You have to admire the tenacity of the Japanese. I’m getting better each day
a whole lot of garden housework there….that’s a job in and of itself π looks beautiful though so you’re doing a great job, when you tire, come on over and take on mine please π
Many thanks, Kim. I’m tired already π
You are making great progress!
So they tell me, Leslie. And you would know. Thanks very much
Deadheads beware! He’s back! π
Thanks very much, Widders
Wow! Dead-heading and sitting on low stools too! Well done, Derrick!
Ah! I call it garden housework too and even though it’s similar work I much prefer the garden to the house!
Same goes for us, Clare. Many thanks
