It seems that we can be reasonably confident that the weather will improve from today, which has remained hot and sunny.
On the strength of that, yesterday evening Jackie righted the garden furniture and swept the patio and the path between the kitchen wall and the Pond Bed.
Today I carried out the same operation on other paving and brick paths. Perhaps I will rake the gravel tomorrow.
Later this afternoon I posted https://derrickjknight.com/2021/08/10/julie-andrews/
This evening we dined on succulent roast chicken and pork chipolatas; sage and onion stuffing; crisp Yorkshire pudding; boiled potatoes; crunchy carrots and cauliflower; tender mange touts and runner beans, with which Jackie drank more of the rosé and I finished the Comté Tolosan rouge.
Lovelier than ever! You and Jackie put so much time and effort into keeping up that beautiful garden.
Thank you so much, AnneMarie
You and Jackie have clearly had a busy day. I always mean to mention how remarkable it is that she manages to produce such wonderful meals after a day of gardening. Also, that I enjoy reading about your different choices of libation.
Thank you very much, Anne. Jackie does much of her preparation early in the morning. Still very remarkable.
Beautiful as always, you two! ❤️🇬🇧
Thanks very much from us both, John
Good to see your lovely garden recovering from vicissitudes of weather, Derrick.
Thanks very much, Dolly.
You are very welcome, Derrick.
Garden is looking beautiful, despite the battering it has had.
Thanks very much, Quercus
A clean sweep, indeed! Great gardening work, Jackie and Derrick! The paths look beautiful!
I love seeing the interesting artistic shadows the sun has created on the paths! 🙂
Always enjoy spotting owls! And that B&B man is cool! 🙂
The colourful lights/bulbs in that first photo must be beautiful when turned on at night! 🙂 Would love to see it! 🙂
(((HUGS))) 🙂
PS…
Q: What did the mother broom say to the baby broom?
A: Time for you to go to sweep, dear. 😀
🙂 Great joke, Carolyn. Jackie will produce another set of night lights for you. Thanks very much X
Ooh! I would love to see the lights at night! 🙂
The Knight garden looks very sunny and inviting today!
Thanks very much, Liz. I might use your phrase as a post title – In the Knight garden
You’re welcome! Feel free to use my phrase!!
🙂
Garden looks lovely.
Garden looks lovely.
Thanks very much, Pat
I see you’ve even got a thriving tomato plant 🙂
The tomato plants are rather sad. Jackie grew them all from seed and some of them are developing blight, which is apparently caused by warm, wet, windy, weather – which is exactly what we have experienced this summer. It is a virus carried in the wind. Thanks very much, Rosaliene.
I keep repeating myself, better than a botanic garden 🌸🌱 Absolutely gorgeous!
That is lovely, Ribana. Thank you very much.
Here’s a proverb for you from my Swedish grandmother: “The new broom sweeps clean, but the old broom knows the corners.”
Wonderful, Linda. We do have to get in crevices and corners 🙂 Thanks a lot
Wonderful
Thanks very much, Gary
It’s a lot of work to keep up with your beautiful garden. I hope you both enjoy it and don’t work too hard.
In truth Jackie enjoys it more than I these days, because it is pretty painful. Never mind, she is happy in her element. Thanks very much, JoAnna
You’re good support for her and your photos are delightful.
Thanks very much
looking good – I can imagine being at your outdoor table enjoying the sun. There’s sun here, it’s streaming in through the ranch-sliders but it’s not for sitting out in quite yet, winter chills
Thank you so much, Catherine X
Quite tidy and lovely, Derrick and Jackie! I am enjoying all the color and variety in your plantings. We are back in the 90s today and headed for low 100s tomorrow. We are busy spot watering plantings and trees trying to keep them alive.
Thank you so much from us both, Lavinia. We have alternated between emergency watering and baling out pots to prevent overwatering during the last few weeks.
Those spacious paths bespeak of hard work put in by the Head Gardener and her Lieutenant.
Thank you so much, Uma
Tomorrow, I will be sweeping our patio, too. Fun to think of how some of my chores mirror yours.
It is, indeed, Laurie. Thank you very much
Oh, it’s sunny out there.
Thanks very much, Arlene
This post seems to have such an air of comfort and reassurance – that the weather has now returned to more of a seasonal norm. Let’s hope so! Your garden certainly looks bursting with summer colour and joy – and so tidy, too! I agree with Anne’s comment about Jackie’s wonderous ability to juggle the Head Chef’s hat and the Head Gardener’s design board & spade!
I would love to know the background of your ‘b & b man’!?
The B and B man was a present from Becky and Ian who, in normal times, often come for a weekend and stay for several weeks. Thank you so much, Emma
What a wonderful way for them to have thanked you and Jackie – or were they just ensuring that you couldn’t refuse a request from them to visit again, any time!!
Lovely 🙂
🙂
Looking very ship shape
Thanks very much, Sheree
A pleasure as always Derrick
I’ve always liked how you have those various paths (named!) through your garden. A wonderful teamwork job of sweeping them clean and photographing them! 😀
I like “the B&B man,” too.
Thanks very much, Merril
You’re welcome!
Everything looks so perfect. I could just image having a cocktail and strolling the paths…..
Thank you so much, GP
Beautiful garden, Derrick! It’s obvious there is a lot of hard work and dedication put into making it a lovely place to enjoy.
Thank you very much, Eugi
My pleasure, Derrick!
I am impressed by the absence of weeds in that block paving.
Thanks a lot, Andrew
It’s all looking very tidy! I hope the winds don’t destroy that again!
Thanks very much, Janet
Looks beautiful.
Thanks a lot, Mrs W
Your welcome.
Oh, oh, oh! This post is almost too much for my sore eyes. But I thank you.
Thank you, too, Cynthia
You two have your work cut out on keeping those pathways clear. Well done to you both.
Thank you so much from us both, Sue
My apologies for being a little behind with my reading. I also need to settle on the sofa and have an enjoyable catch up read of The Knight’s tales.
No pressure, Sue. I am pleased that you comment so regularly.
Always my pleasure. Thank you, Derrick
Looking so pristine. Your garden is a credit to the hard work you and Jackie put into it. Your dinner sounds absolutely scrumptious.
Tank you very much, Sylvia
