Survivors December 2019

Today was the third bright, sunny, and cold one in a row. Given that overnight temperatures are in the low minuses, I wandered around the garden to photograph some of the albeit somewhat poorly looking surviving flora. Two that seem to bloom continuously are the yellow bidens and the white solanums from last year. AContinue reading “Survivors December 2019”

Light-headed

I was wondering round the garden with a camera when Shelly arrived for a morning coffee visit with congenial conversation. Raindrops bejewelled various pelargoniums, keeping fuchsias like Mrs Popple, and   salvias Amistad and Hot Lips glistening. Honesty seed pods sparkled,   Penstemons and marigolds are either early or late,   while the viburnums BodnantenseContinue reading “Light-headed”

Almost Too Quick

Heavy rain this morning gave way to bright, sunny, spells; in one of which I photographed some raindrops on roses, dahlia Puerto Rico, a begonia, a pelargonium, fuchias, and penstemons. Japanese anemones had managed to stay dry. It didn’t take Nugget long to join in, and he was almost too quick for “Where’s Nugget?” (29)Continue reading “Almost Too Quick”

The Early Evening Light

This morning I completed my mega filing task while Jackie carried out more planting under the watchful eye of Nugget with whom she happily conversed. “Where’s Nugget?” (25). Beside the Weeping Birch Bed with its kniphofias, petunias, heleniums, and pelargoniums. The yellow kniphofia is Popsicle Mango; the terracotta one has attracted a wasp. Small WhiteContinue reading “The Early Evening Light”

Not Cold Enough

Perhaps it was the very light overnight frost that led the blackbirds to investigate the neglected crab apples in the front garden. This one turned its back on them and considerately stayed just long enough for me to photograph it. We still have plenty of colour in our plot. There are winter flowering plants suchContinue reading “Not Cold Enough”

The Rush Hour

CLICK ON IMAGES TO ENLARGE. REPEAT IF REQUIRED We had a very enjoyable time yesterday evening at Vicki and Barrie’s Golden Wedding Celebrations, organised by their children and grandchildren. Pop records and TV adverts from 1967 were played on a monitor. Son, Steve, conducted a spoof ‘Mr and Mrs’ programme that his parents entered intoContinue reading “The Rush Hour”

“So Much Colour”

CLICK ON IMAGES TO ENLARGE. REPEAT IF REQUIRED This morning Jackie continued her autumn clearing and planting in the garden. This afternoon I tidied up a bit then wandered around with my camera. Petunias and geraniums continue to glow, with bright little erigerons still standing proud; and diascias and begonias adding to the music. TheContinue reading ““So Much Colour””
